چکیده

We apply the lattice Boltzmann equation (LBE) with multiple-relaxation-time (MRT) collision model to simulate laminar flows in two-dimensions (2D). In order to simulate flows in an unbounded domain with the LBE method, we need to address two issues: stretched nonuniform mesh and inflow and outflow boundary conditions. We use the interpolated grid stretching method to address the need of non-uniform mesh. We demonstrate that various inflow and outflow boundary conditions can be easily and consistently realized with the MRT-LBE. The MRT-LBE with non-uniform stretched grids is first validated with a number of test cases: the Poiseuille flow, the flow past a cylinder asymmetrically placed in a channel, and the flow past a cylinder in an unbounded domain. We use the LBE method to simulate the flow past two tandem cylinders in an unbounded domain with Re = 100. Our results agree well with existing ones. Through this work we demonstrate the effectiveness of the MRT-LBE method with grid stretching. 2008 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.

A Simplified Curved Boundary Condition in Stationary/Moving Boundaries for the Lattice Boltzmann Method

Lattice Boltzmann method is one of computational fluid dynamic subdivisions. Despite complicated mathematics involved in its background, end simple relations dominate on it; so in comparison to the conventional computational fluid dynamic methods, simpler computer programs are needed. Due to its characteristics for parallel programming, this method is considered efficient for the simulation of ...

Implementation of D3Q19 Lattice Boltzmann Method with a Curved Wall Boundary Condition for Simulation of Practical Flow Problems

In this paper, implementation of an extended form of a no-slip wall boundary condition is presented for the three-dimensional (3-D) lattice Boltzmann method (LBM) for solving the incompressible fluid flows with complex geometries. The boundary condition is based on the off-lattice scheme with a polynomial interpolation which is used to reconstruct the curved or irregular wall boundary on the ne...

A comparative study of the LBE and GKS methods for 2D near incompressible laminar flows

We compare the lattice Boltzmann equation (LBE) and the gas-kinetic scheme (GKS) applied to 2D incompressible laminar flows. Although both methods are derived from the Boltzmann equation thus share a common kinetic origin, numerically they are rather different. The LBE is a finite difference method, while the GKS is a finite-volume one. In addition, the LBE is valid for near incompressible flow...

Numerical Investigation of Non-Newtonians Fluids Flows between Two Rotating Cylinders Using Lattice Boltzmann Method

A numerical investigation is performed for non Newtonian fluids flow between two concentric cylinders. The D2Q9 lattice Boltzmann model developed from the Bhatangar-Gross-Krook (LBGK) approximation is used to obtain the flow field for fluids obeying to the power-law model. The inner and outer cylinders rotate in the same and the opposite direction while the end walls are maintained at rest. The...

Simulation of Micro-Channel and Micro-Orifice Flow Using Lattice Boltzmann Method with Langmuir Slip Model

Because of its kinetic nature and computational advantages, the Lattice Boltzmann method (LBM) has been well accepted as a useful tool to simulate micro-scale flows. The slip boundary model plays a crucial role in the accuracy of solutions for micro-channel flow simulations. The most used slip boundary condition is the Maxwell slip model. The results of Maxwell slip model are affected by the ac...
